The Joy of Learning
"A sad and struggling boy to a happy learner"- A Remedial Success Story

A boy of 7 years' old, Shravan (name changed), was struggling to identify alphabets and numbers. When he underwent psychometric test, he was in the Pre-Kindergarten level. One of the teacher from a reputed school, in which Shravan was studying, contacted the parents and suggested them my name. Since the parents knew me before, they immediately contacted me and requested to take the class for him.

I thank the parents and the teacher for recognising and accepting the condition of the child and repositing their faith in me with regards to teaching him.

Initially, I started with phonic sounds. When it did not work for him, I started with many different strategies to improve his learning in reading and writing. In the process of teaching and learning, I understood one thing that Shravan is a hardworker and he loves to learn.
I made his learning interesting by giving activities with colouring and drawing, since I observed that he is very fond of drawing and colouring. With this, he learnt very fast.

I used drawing book, strokes, pattern books, graph book etc., to make him learn to recognize, read and write. Flash cards were used at a later stage. I also made his learning fun by showing videos, using rhymes. All this was made possible with IEP (Individual Education Plan) after understanding the exact learning challenge that Shravan was facing.

Shravan took two months to learn 26 letters of the English Language. Now he recognizes 1 to 20 numbers and reads number name too. After four months of continuous training, he reads two and three-letter words by himself. His handwriting also improved drastically.

When it was a challenge for me to teach him 5 letters out of 26, I felt very bad and wanted to giveup. But his dedication towards learning made me keep up with teaching him and inspired me to incorporate different strategies of teaching to empower him to progress on his path of learning.

Now, Shravan is my motivator, my success and my dream. I am pretty sure that at the end of this academic year, he reaches atleast the 2nd level. All of this was possible because Shravan has the desire, motivation and dedication to succeed in his learning path.
